Mobilis\u00e9 en septembre 1939, le Lieutenant-colonel Marchand, alors capitaine, suivit le r\u00e9giment en Islande puis en Angleterre, participa au raid de Dieppe o\u00f9 il fut fait prisonnier. Marchand fut alors d\u00e9tenu 1 308 jours au camp d\u2019Eischst\u00e4tt, en Bavi\u00e8re, dont 408 encha\u00een\u00e9s, comme ses camarades officiers canadiens. Il ne devait \u00eatre lib\u00e9r\u00e9 que le 29 avril 1945 par les troupes am\u00e9ricaines, command\u00e9es par le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral George Patton.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9mobilis\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 de 1945, Marchand qui, dans la vie civile travaillait \u00e0 la Distillerie Melchers dont il devait \u00e9ventuellement devenir pr\u00e9sident et directeur-g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, revint \u00e0 l\u2019arm\u00e9e de r\u00e9serve en mai 1951 comme officier attach\u00e9 \u00e0 la 6e Brigade avant de rejoindre son ancien r\u00e9giment en juin 1952 comme Major et commandant-adjoint. Son p\u00e8re, l\u2019Honorable Victor Marchand, conseiller l\u00e9gislatif, avait lui-m\u00eame servi comme Lieutenant-colonel honoraire des Fusiliers Mont-Royal dans les ann\u00e9es 1930.<\/p>\n<p>Le Lieutenant-colonel Marchand a \u00e9galement servi comme aide de camp du Lieutenant-gouverneur du Qu\u00e9bec. Il s\u2019est \u00e9galement occup\u00e9 activement de politique et fut m\u00eame candidat lib\u00e9ral dans le comt\u00e9 de Jacques-Cartier dont il pr\u00e9sida un temps l\u2019Association lib\u00e9rale du comt\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>En juin 1956, plus d\u2019une centaine de militaires des Fusiliers Mont-Royal, Sarto Marchand en t\u00eate, accompagn\u00e9s de la fanfare, organis\u00e8rent une corv\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4pital Saint-Charles-Borrom\u00e9e pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 l\u2019appel lanc\u00e9 par le Cardinal Paul-\u00c9mile L\u00e9ger qui venait d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir cette institution, o\u00f9 logeait jusque-l\u00e0 l\u2019H\u00f4pital g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de Montr\u00e9al qui venait de d\u00e9m\u00e9nager dans un immeuble tout neuf.<\/p>\n<p>Son mandat termin\u00e9, le Lieutenant-colonel Marchand, qui devait d\u00e9c\u00e9der le 16 juin 1995 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 91 ans, devait c\u00e9der son commandement au Lieutenant-colonel Jean-Paul Gauthier, autre v\u00e9t\u00e9ran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-3 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">D\u00e9coration<\/h2><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1080,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"portfolio_category":[15,16],"portfolio_skills":[],"portfolio_tags":[],"class_list":["post-1079","avada_portfolio","type-avada_portfolio","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","portfolio_category-cadres","portfolio_category-commandants"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.8 -
