SCOTT<\/h1><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-2 fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-margin-top-small:10px;--awb-margin-right-small:0px;--awb-margin-bottom-small:10px;--awb-margin-left-small:0px;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\">1902-1903<\/h2><span class=\"awb-title-spacer\"><\/span><div class=\"title-sep-container\"><div class=\"title-sep sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"border-color:#e0dede;\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>Henri Scott occupe une place de choix dans notre histoire r\u00e9gimentaire puisqu\u2019il fut le premier sergent-major en titre des Carabiniers Mont-Royal.<br \/>\nMilitaire, professeur d\u2019\u00e9ducation physique, journaliste et marchand g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, n\u00e9 le 29 mai 1880 \u00e0 Alfred, en Ontario, il est d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 le 31 mai 1926,\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 46 ans, \u00e0 Grand Calumet au Qu\u00e9bec.<br \/>\n\u00c0 la fin de son adolescence, son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour la vie militaire l\u2019am\u00e8ne \u00e0 s\u2019engager dans le 65e Bataillon des Carabiniers Mont-Royal. Tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, ses sup\u00e9rieurs appr\u00e9cient ses talents et l\u2019envoient suivre un cours \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole d\u2019infanterie de Saint-Jean, o\u00f9 il obtient un certificat de premi\u00e8re classe comme instructeur d\u2019infanterie et est promu sergent-major \u00e0 son retour.<br \/>\n\u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, le gouvernement canadien offrait un cours sp\u00e9cial d\u2019\u00e9ducation physique au repr\u00e9sentant de chaque district militaire du Canada. Sur la recommandation du commandant des Carabiniers Mont-Royal du temps, le Lieutenant-colonel Fran\u00e7ois-Samuel Mackay, Scott s\u2019inscrivit en 1903 au Royal Military College of Canada, de kingston, comme repr\u00e9sentant du District de Montr\u00e9al, d\u2019o\u00f9 il obtint un dipl\u00f4me de premi\u00e8re classe et fut aussit\u00f4t nomm\u00e9 Sergent-major de la 11e Brigade d\u2019infanterie au Camp de Trois-Rivi\u00e8res.<br \/>\nEn janvier 1905, tout en poursuivant sa carri\u00e8re dans la milice, Scott commen\u00e7a \u00e0 enseigner l\u2019\u00e9ducation physique \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole normale Jacques-Cartier, au Coll\u00e8ge Sainte-Marie et au Coll\u00e8ge Saint-Laurent. En octobre 1905, il fonde la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale de gymnastique. En 1908, il se rend \u00e0 Rome et, avec l\u2019appui du journal La Presse, avec une \u00e9quipe de 10 gymnastes provenant en grande partie du Coll\u00e8ge de Saint-Laurent, il triomphe devant le Pape Pie X lors d\u2019un tournoi international de gymnastique. En 1911, il retraverse l\u2019Atlantique avec dix de ses \u00e9l\u00e8ves pour prendre part au \u00ab Congr\u00e8s international de gymnastes catholiques \u00e0 Nancy, en France o\u00f9 les jeunes montr\u00e9alais remportent encore la victoire.<br \/>\nPoursuivant parall\u00e8lement sa carri\u00e8re militaire, Scott passe des Carabiniers au 85e Bataillon (maintenant le R\u00e9giment de Maisonneuve) en tant que Lieutenant, tout en enseignant la culture physique non seulement aux hommes du Maisonneuve mais \u00e0 ceux des Carabiniers Mont-Royal.<br \/>\nAu d\u00e9but de la Premi\u00e8re guerre mondiale, il devienet officier recruteur en chef du 57e Bataillon d\u2019infanterie, form\u00e9 le 28 avril 1915 et en un an, il recrute 1 800 Canadiens fran\u00e7ais au sein de cette unit\u00e9.
